Event Description

'Housing is a Mental Health Issue' - Workshop with Focus E15 campaign group
We know that overcrowded, insecure and inadequate housing or being forcibly housed away from our friends and family makes people feel miserable and stressed. Housing affects our health and well-being in a huge way.

So are local and national policy-makers and companies doing enough to improving housing for local people? Or are they making it worse? How is the health of communities being affected by housing and financial decisions? What could local councils be doing differently? And who are the hidden powerful actors in these housing policy decisions - who's story rarely gets told?

Focus E15, the housing activist group in East London, have launched a 'Housing is a Mental Health Issue' campaign after conducting some participatory action research that showed clearly the link between housing policy choices and psychological distress within Newham. They are demanding better housing policy for better health.
So come along and join us..
To hear about the community-led research directly from members of Focus E15.
To hear Debt Resistance UK expose some of the financial and powerful actors that exist behind the housing policy decisions.
To explore with us how we can all work together on these issues to demand healthier housing policies.
To launch a 'Housing and Mental Health' network through which we can share ideas and start organising together to affect social change. Come and be part of this new initiative and help shape it.

Whether you're a local Newham resident who has been directly affected by housing issues, or a mental health or social care professional -  we invite you to come along to this event.
Everyone welcome!
